About KeySpot® & DST

KeySpot® was developed by Sunderland locksmith Mark Cowie to conceal spare-key storage within everyday property features.

It is the flagship product within Disguised Security Technology™ (DST), the wider design framework being developed around concealed security functions.

From concept to validation

Working prototypes, two completed university research trials and innovation support have helped move KeySpot® forward. Product refinement and independent testing remain part of the development pathway.

From locksmith experience to a new approach

KeySpot® was developed by Mark Cowie after seeing visible key safes repeatedly targeted, creating theft, damage and safeguarding concerns.

University of Sunderland research

Two KeySpot® research trials were completed. The University confirmed that they were successful and created operational efficiencies for staff.

UK Government funding support (UKSPF)

Development has been part-funded through UKSPF support, helping progress the concept through prototype and validation stages.

Patent pending protection

KeySpot® is patent pending under UK Patent Application No. GB2509557.1, supporting long-term development and product integrity.

Innovate UK support and validation pathway

KeySpot® has been accepted for Innovate UK support and is being developed with recognised physical security standards in mind, working toward independent testing and certification.

Our Approach
