KeySpot® was developed by locksmith and security specialist Mark Cowie to address the risks created by visible key safes. It sits within Disguised Security Technology™ (DST) — a UK-originated category of fixed, property-integrated physical security designed to reduce visual signalling and targeting risk. DST is not surveillance and excludes monitoring, tracking, and recording technologies.

KeySpot® was developed from real-world locksmith experience and is progressing through academic engagement, innovation support and formal validation steps to support adoption in regulated environments.
From locksmith experience to a new approach
KeySpot® was developed by Mark Cowie after seeing visible key safes repeatedly targeted, creating theft, damage and safeguarding concerns.
Academic engagement (University of Sunderland)
KeySpot® and the wider DST framework have progressed through the University of Sunderland’s Arrow Innovation Support programme, with independent recognition of DST as an emerging direction in physical security.
UK Government funding support (UKSPF)
Development has been part-funded through UKSPF support, helping progress the concept through prototype and validation stages.
Patent pending protection
KeySpot® is patent pending under UK Patent Application No. GB2509557.1, supporting long-term development and product integrity.
Innovate UK support and validation pathway
KeySpot® has been accepted for Innovate UK support and is being developed with recognised physical security standards in mind, working toward independent testing and certification.
